'Move to Italy'- Tottenham set to miss out on soon-to-be Lille star free agent
ANP

Tottenham are interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David

There is no surprise that Tottenham are aiming to bolster their attacking depth in the summer. The Lilywhites have struggled in the final third of the pitch this season. Many key attackers have just failed to perform consistently under Ange Postecoglou at N17. This is one of the reasons why the North London club has struggled to carve out positive results in domestic competitions.

Last summer’s statement signing Dominic Solanke also admitted that he found life tough initially after arriving at Hotspur Way. However, the England international has managed to find his mojo back and he is fine goalscoring form for Ange’s men in recent weeks. But this cannot be said for the other key attackers in the squad.

January signing Mathys Tel has struggled to make an instant impact at N17 ever since arriving from Bayern Munich. The Frenchman is already facing an uncertain future at Spurs and it remains to be seen whether he will extend his stay beyond this season. Another forward that has struggled to hit the ground running is Richarlison. The Brazilian has fallen down the pecking order under Big Ange after failing to stay fit.

Tottenham suffer blow in their pursuit of Lille star Jonathan David

It was reported earlier that Tottenham are interested in signing Jonathan David from Lille. The 25-year-old is a free agent in the summer and Spurs are looking to fend off competition and grab that opportunity. The Lilywhites view the prolific striker as a perfect replacement of the outgoing Richarlison.

However, Spurs have suffered a massive setback in their pursuit of the Lille star. Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Pete O’Rourke has said,

“I’d fancy Jonathan David to make a move to Italy on a free. I think Napoli seem to be the ones that are really pushing for the Canadian international. So I think there’s more possibility of them playing in Serie A than the Premier League next season.”

Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Jonathan David would move to Italy in the summer once his contract expires. The transfer correspondent also pointed out that Napoli are in the race for the prolific striker and will win the race for David’s signature. O’Rourke insisted that the Canada international prefers a move to the Serie A over Premier League.

Daniel Levy will now need to shift his focus on other targets if he wants to bolster the quality of the attack for next season. Spurs are also interested in signing Borussia Monchengladbach striker Tim Kleindienst in the summer. The Lilywhites view the Germany international as a good backup striker to have in the squad. Levy believes Kleindienst would provide a perfect cover for Dominic Solanke under a new manager next season.
