‘My Club’: Pochettino breaks silence on his idea of Tottenham return until Levy appointed Frank

Tottenham Hotspur relieved Ange Postecoglou of his duties despite the Australian head coach winning the Europa League last season; it came down to the poor domestic display that ended up with Daniel Levy calling for a managerial change.

Thomas Frank appointed, Mauricio Pochettino ignored?

The Lilywhites appointed Dane head coach Thomas Frank to take over from the former Celtic manager, and just a few weeks after his appointment at the helm at Hotspur Way, former North Londoners manager Mauricio Pochettino has spoken about whether the Argentine was contacted by the chiefs at N17 and if he was open to returning to the Premier League heavyweights.

It was just before the appointment of the former Bees manager at Spurs that Pochettino ruled himself out of the race to take over the reins from Postecoglou, and this despite the former PSG manager’s admission that he has unfinished business at Tottenham back in March, where he expressed his desire to return to N17 someday and lead the club to silverware.

Pochettino speaks out on possibilities of him replacing Postecoglou, before Frank’s appointment

And now Pochettino has made the records clear about his possible return and whether he was in contention for the chair that Frank now holds. The 53-year-old cleared that his former bosses never reached out to him about a possible return to Tottenham after Ange’s sack. He also insisted that coming back to Tottenham was never an option this summer, but whilst doing so, he also showed how he still has his heart at Hotspur Way, given how he referred to Tottenham as ‘my club’.

Speaking to Fox Sports (via The Mirror), the former Lilywhites manager said:

“The club never contacted me. I never talked to them. Since I left in 2019, for the position of the manager or the head coach, my name has been appearing on every list!

“If you are seeing the rumours I’ve seen, there are 100 coaches on their list! Don’t be worried about that. If something happened, you will see, but we cannot talk about this type of thing.

“If something happened, for sure you will see, but we cannot talk about this type of thing, because I think today, it’s not real. It’s not realistic. Look at where I am, where we are. And the thing is, the answer is so clear, no? But we’re talking about it because it’s my club, like Newells or Espanyol.”

There have been claims that Pochettino has a hefty $25m (£19.3m) release clause in his contract with USMNT, which would definitely rule him out of contention for a job at Tottenham given how Levy paid almost half of it to bring Thomas Frank to N17.

But that being said, it would be stuff of dreams to see Pochettino return back to Tottenham Hotspur someday and lead the club to glory that his side truly deserved.
