Napoli coach Conte hints that he will stay another year

Napoli coach Antonio Conte dropped a subtle clue on his intentions to stay with Napoli at least another year, telling press before Thursday’s defeat against Manchester City that “This is the second year, then there will be a third.”

These words come from Sky Sport before the Champions League match, with quotes via AreaNapoli who note that not many outlets appear to have picked up on the clue.

Whilst Conte’s contract with Napoli is not due to expire until 2028, there is the clear intention that he will stay in Naples, regardless of results this season.

These words carry great significance and help to underline the sense of continuity that has emerged in Naples.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has made lots of correct decisions in recent years and Napoli finally find themselves back at the forefront of Italian football.

Last season’s Scudetto success was a great result and the coach is only looking to build on it, with an eye on the future.

Thursday’s loss to Manchester City was unfortunate and Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s red card did not help matters. However, the reformatted Champions League means that Conte’s team will have plenty more opportunities to show they can compete with the very best.
