Wednesday’s reports claim that Napoli have been in contact with former Juventus head coach Massimilano Allegri to discuss a potential move to the Stadio Maradona in the event that Antonio Conte leaves the club at the end of the 2024-25 season.
Napoli are currently fully focused on the end of the 2024-25 Serie A season, which sees them lead Inter by three points at the top of the table with three fixtures left to play this term.
If they are triumphant at the end of the 2024-25 season, it will be Napoli’s second title win in three years, having not won the Scudetto in over 30 years before 2022-23. It will also be the third time that Conte has won the league title during his first season at a new club, having also done so at Juventus and Chelsea.
However, even if Napoli do win the Serie A title in 2024-25, there are suggestions that Conte is already considering his future, amidst reports of growing tension with club President Aurelio De Laurentiis and moves to both Juventus and Milan.
It is understood that the January sale of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain for around €70m without bringing in any adequate replacements in the midst of a title fight is one of the main reasons behind Conte’s frustration at Napoli.
According to reports from TMW, Napoli have begun to intensify contact with former Juventus head coach Allegri, who is still available after his Bianconeri departure at the end of the 2023-24 campaign.
Wednesday’s report suggests that Allegri and De Laurentiis have enjoyed a good relationship for several years already, and that Allegri is considered as more than just a ‘Plan B’.
However, the situation still depends on Conte’s decision at the end of the 2024-25 season, and for now, the coach will not make any decisions until the Serie A title is decided, which could go down to the final day.
