Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna is in contact with the agent of Lille centre-forward Jonathan David and has invited him to sit down with club President Aurelio De Laurentiis to discuss the possibility of a move to the Stadio Maradona on a free transfer this summer.
David, who has also been linked with a move to Juventus, Inter, Barcelona and others over the course of the 2024-25 season, will leave Lille upon the expiry of his contract on June 30.
Napoli, meanwhile, are planning a summer of major investment to prepare their squad for its return to the Champions League in 2025-26. With Victor Osimhen expected to be sold, the attacking department is an area that will be looked at.
While Napoli have also been linked with moves for Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund, Udinese’s Lorenzo Lucca and Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny this season, David is understood to be the currently preferred option.
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport on Sunday morning, negotiations for David are already underway and that the player’s agent is in the city of Naples to further discuss the possibility of a move.
Though he is available as a free agent, it is estimated that it will cost around €34m for any team to sign David this summer when signing bonuses, agent fees and the first year of salary are factored in.
