Tottenham have a decision to make as Cristian Romero’s future at N17 hangs in the balance

Tottenham star Cristian Romero has certainly made a name for himself at N17. The Argentina international has become a fan-favourite during his time at the club due to his consistent performances. The hunger to fight for the badge and to play well for the club makes him a standout player in the team.

The 27-year-old’s most recent heroics came in the Europa League final against Manchester United. The ex-Atalanta star did not let anyone through, and also won the Man of the Match award for his solid performance . His performance in the final raised a lot of eyebrows, with Alexis Mac Allister even calling Romero as the ‘best centre-back in the world.’

This just shows that the Spurs centre-back has matured a lot during his time at N17. He is a leader in the dressing room, and the difference in quality and performance is there for all to see when Romero does not feature in the starting eleven. Losing a player like him would be a massive setback for the Lilywhites, as they look to build on the Europa League success next year.

Tottenham need to make a quick decision on Cristian Romero’s future

It was reported earlier that Atletico Madrid are willing to test the waters for Cristian Romero. The Spanish giants are keen to add him to their ranks as they look to mount up a title challenge next season. The aforementioned report also stated that Diego Simeone is ‘desperate’ to land the Argentine centre-back and is willing to break the bank for his signature.

However, Spurs are not budging in their demands to let Romero leave N17. And Bryan King has now urged the Lilywhites to make a quick decision on the Spurs No.17 future as time ticks on in the transfer window. Speaking to Tottenham News, King said,

“Romero has two years left on his contract. If Tottenham want to dig their heels in, they have the right to. I think this is Romero and his agent siring up trouble. Of course, Simeone will admire him; he’d be a great addition to Atletico, but he’d be a big loss to Tottenham.”

The ex-scout added,

“Romero has got two years left on his contract; either this needs to be put to bed, or he needs to be sold because it’s not doing the player or club any good. If Atletico want him, put £85million on the table and see what Tottenham say. Otherwise, Romero needs to get on with his job; Tottenham are paying him, not Atletico.”

Bryan King believes that Cristian Romero and his agent are ‘stirring up’ trouble as Atletico Madrid look keen to land the centre-back. The ex-scout urges the Lilywhites to sort out the ex-Atalanta star’s future quickly as it is not doing any good for the club and the player. King also states that Atleti must table a £85m if they want Romero. And if they cannot do that, then the 27-year-old star must get on with the job as he is still on Tottenham’s payroll.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Spurs star. With pre-season just around the corner, Tottenham must do everything they can to sort out Cristian Romero’s future quickly. The Lilywhites have already identified his replacement in case he decides to leave the club in the coming weeks. Crystal palace star Marc Guehi is seen as an ideal replacement that could fill the void left behind by the Argentinian.
