Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri won’t be able to rely on the services of Matias Vecino for Monday’s Serie A encounter against Genoa.

The Biancocelesti are currently operating with a completely decimated midfield. They lost Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Nicolo Rovella to injury, while Reda Belahyane and Matteo Guendouzi are suspended. Therefore, Sarri has been desperately pursuing any reinforcement he could find, hence why he reinstated Toma Basic into the Serie A squad list at Dele-Bashiru’s expense.

Although the manager’s decision to omit the Nigerian international was unpopular with the hierarchy, Lazio confirmed it on Sunday via a press release published on the club’s official website.

SS Lazio announces that, following the injury sustained by Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, a temporary replacement has been requested from the official list filed with Lega Serie A.

In his place, Toma Basic has been included, who from today becomes part of the list available for the official league matches.

The same announcement also included the matchday squad for Monday’s away fixture against Genoa. Sadly for Sarri, Vecino failed to recover in time from the thigh injury that has been haunting him since pre-season. Therefore, the experienced Uruguayan remained in Rome as he continues to work on regaining his best physical condition.

With five midfielders out of action, the Lazio boss turned to the Primavera squad (U20), calling up a couple of 19-year-old starlets in Valerio Farcomeni and Pietro Pinelli. In addition to the aforementioned midfield absentees, Lazio right-back Manuel Lazzari remains unavailable due to an injury.

Goalkeepers: Furlanetto, Mandas, Provedel;

Defenders: Gila, Hysaj, Marusic, Nuno Tavares, Patric, Pellegrini, Provstgaard, Romagnoli;

Midfielders: Basic, Cataldi, Farcomeni, Pinelli;

Forwards: Cancellieri, Castellanos, Dia, Isaksen, Noslin, Pedro, Zaccagni.
