From helping England secure the 2003 Rugby World Cup to reshaping the national football team alongside Gareth Southgate, Dave Reddin's career is truly exceptional.
Previously, he led performance services for the British Olympic Association and managed preparations for major events such as the successful London 2012 Olympics.
Abi Tierney, CEO of the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), expressed her excitement in an official statement: “Dave brings unparalleled expertise and experience in elite sports worldwide. We are confident that his appointment will greatly benefit all of Welsh rugby.”
Reddin's arrival is timely, as both the men's and women's national teams are experiencing tough times. The men’s team is struggling with a 17-match losing streak, while the women’s team has not won a Six Nations match since 2025 began.
Despite these challenges, Reddin remains hopeful. He stated on the WRU's website, “This is one of the top roles in world rugby because of the deep passion and significance the game holds in Wales. I’m inspired by the genuine potential of the new vision and strategy that Abi and her team have outlined.”
With Reddin at the helm, the new WRU One Wales strategy will be rolled out through an integrated performance structure. This includes national teams and grassroots programs, working closely with professional clubs to ensure long-term success.
The WRU has a proud history of innovation in rugby governance, dating back to 1967, when it was the first union to establish the role Reddin now fills. As the 14th person in this position, there are high expectations for a new chapter in Welsh rugby.
Reddin’s track record indicates he is not just here to stabilize the situation—he is ready to explore bold new directions.
