New Inter Milan President To Be From Oaktree Capital Ranks

The new President of Inter Milan will be named from within the ranks of Oaktree Capital.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews. The newspaper anticipate that the new President will not live in Milan.

Oaktree have now completed their takeover of Suning’s shares at Inter.

The US-based fund have repossessed the Chinese company’s controlling stake in the Nerazzurri following a default on the loan from the spring of 2021.

And Oaktree have announced their intention to run Inter moving forward in an official statement.

That does not mean, however, that the fund have completed the takeover.

There is still a transitional process that will have to take place before Oaktree are fully in place as Inter owners.

New Inter Milan President To Come From Within Oaktree Ranks

First of all, Oaktree will have to name a new board of directors.

For this to happen, there will be a shareholder meeting

The Gazzetta report that it will be current Inter President Steven Zhang who convenes the meeting. Suning may no longer be Nerazzurri owners, but Zhang remains club President for the time being.

The Gazzetta anticipate that the meeting will take place fifteen days after an e-mail notification to all Inter shareholders.

In the meantime, Inter will not be able to make any major business decisions, either on or off the pitch – such as sales, signings, contract extensions, or commercial deals and sponsorship.

In that upcoming shareholder meeting, a new Inter board of directors will be named.

Naturally, there will be no representation on the new board for outgoing owners Suning. Rather, it will reflect the new ownership.

And then there will be the matter of electing a new President of Inter.

According to the Gazzetta, the new President will be someone already at Oaktree.

There had been some rumours that legendary former Inter captain Javier Zanetti could be promoted from his current role of Vice-President of the club.
