Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been strengthening in all departments in recent weeks, after their place in the UEFA Europa League was confirmed by CAS. Now that it has been revealed that a deal for Douglas Luiz is done, they have a new target to pursue. Nottingham Forest are reportedly in for Jose Angel Carmona.

Nottingham Forest Identify New Target Following Douglas Luiz Transfer

Advanced Talks Underway for Jose Angel Carmona

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Nottingham Forest have a “new target” in this transfer window. They are reportedly in “advanced talks” for Carmona, who has spent the last four years playing in La Liga. He featured in 35 league matches for Sevilla last season, following a successful year-long loan at Getafe.

This report comes alongside the news that Forest’s pursuit of Luiz has been successful. Romano revealed that a deal of around £26 million has been agreed, with the Brazilian’s medical due for Thursday (three days before their clash with Crystal Palace).

David Ornstein, of The Athletic, has disclosed that there will be an initial loan for Luiz, with an obligation to buy that will be activated, should the 27-year-old reach a certain number of games played. The Reds also have the option to activate this by choice if it is not triggered.

Rico Lewis Alternative?

It was also revealed today that Rico Lewis has agreed to sign a new deal with Manchester City. Forest had been pursuing the 20-year-old this week. The Englishman is a natural midfielder, but has largely played as a full-back under Pep Guardiola. It is possible that the East Midlands outfit wanted to sign Lewis as a midfielder, but it is assumed that he would have come in as a full-back.

This likely means that the signing of Carmona is an alternative to Lewis. Both players are young and more than capable of playing on either side of a back four. However, leaving their business late in the window may have hurt Forest here as they have failed to secure their first target.
