Newcastle United has turned its attention to new striking targets after reportedly missing out on Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United.
The RB Leipzig forward, who had been open to offers from both clubs, is believed to have chosen Old Trafford despite Newcastle putting forward a larger up-front package.

Sesko's decision, combined with continued uncertainty over Alexander Isak’s future, has increased the urgency for the Magpies to land a marquee forward before the transfer window closes.
One name high on Newcastle’s list now is Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen. The Norway international impressed in his debut Premier League campaign, scoring 14 times in 35 domestic appearances, following a move from Celta Vigo, and fits Newcastle’s profile of a physical, hard-working forward.
However, Wolves are understood to value the 25-year-old at around $80M, a fee that could prove problematic.
Another leading target previously has been Yoane Wissa of Brentford. The Congolese forward’s versatility and proven Premier League scoring record make him an attractive option.
Newcastle’s chances of adding Wissa reportedly have been increased by Brentford’s pursuit of Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara, a move that could free Wissa to depart. Eddie Howe's side has already seen an initial £25M bid turned down, approximately $33M, but could return with an improved offer.
Beyond Larsen and Wissa, Newcastle’s shortlist reportedly includes Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda.
All three are proven top-flight performers, but each comes with significant challenges, either in valuation, availability, or competition from other elite clubs. Watkins, in particular, is valued at around $80M, while Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a move for Jackson.
The striker search comes against a backdrop of growing frustration among Newcastle supporters, who have seen a string of high-profile targets slip away in recent windows.
Alongside Sesko, the club has failed to secure deals for the likes of Hugo Ekitike, Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Dean Huijsen and Bryan Mbeumo. With the Premier League season approaching and European qualification once again a target, Newcastle’s recruitment team faces a decisive few weeks.
Landing a proven goalscorer is seen as essential not only to replace the potential departure of Isak but also to provide the firepower needed to close the gap on the division’s top sides.
Whether it’s Larsen’s aerial presence, Wissa’s versatility or another unexpected arrival, Newcastle can ill afford another misstep in its increasingly high-stakes striker hunt.
