A current player on the books of Newcastle United has caused chaos in England after being spotted with a bow and arrow. The Premier League star in question is defender Amar Dedic.

The Bosnian international signed for the Magpies in the summer from Benfica in a deal worth just under £30m. The right-back was consequently reunited with Matthias Jaissle, his former coach at both FC Liefering and RB Salzburg.

Dedic has been a key player for his new side as well, with six starts in the league to his name from the opening nine games, producing two assists in that time. Newcastle, however, will be concerned to learn the defender's car was recently at the centre of a major police operation this week.

Dedic Sparks Multi-Car Police Incident

As reported by the Daily Mail, Dedic sparked police alarm on Wednesday after being spotted carrying a bow and arrows in Northumberland. A concerned member of the public reported the Newcastle defender and a friend after they were seen with the weapon near a reservoir in the countryside outside Newcastle.

It's said that 'at least six patrol cars' were then involved in the search for the footballer, as they were dispatched to the area in Harlow Hill. Not all the police cars were marked, but it's understood that some were armed response units.

Dedic and his companion were finally intercepted around seven miles away in the exclusive Darras Hall estate. Sources described a dramatic swoop on Dedic's vehicle before officers searched the car and seized a bow and arrows, with the 24-year-old questioned about his activities.

Adding to the drama, Newcastle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie and former defender Paul Dummett arrived at the scene while police were speaking to Dedic. It is said that the pair were simply in the area by chance and stopped to offer assistance.

After speaking to the two men, officers were satisfied there was no threat to the public, with police subsequently stating that the equipment was believed to have been intended for recreational use. Dedic is said to have fired some arrows while in the countryside, although it remains unclear what he was aiming at. Hunting any animal or bird with a bow and arrow or crossbow is illegal in the UK.

Northumbria Police Share Statement on Dedic Incident

A Northumbria Police spokesperson has now shared a statement on the matter. It explained that enquiries remain ongoing into the incident:

"Shortly after 1.55pm on Wednesday, we received a report of two men carrying a bow and arrows while walking along a track by the reservoir on Military Road in the Harlow Hill area.

"Officers attended and subsequently stopped a vehicle in the Darras Hall area and seized a bow and arrows. At this stage, it is understood they were for recreational use and there was no threat to the public. Enquiries are ongoing."

The Daily Mail report also claimed that Dedic will not face disciplinary action from Newcastle over the incident. That said, there is the internal feeling within the club that the player was naive to believe he could walk around the countryside carrying a bow and arrow.

The Bosnian is expected to be available for Saturday's Premier League trip to Fulham.
