Newcastle United join race for Angelo Stiller

Angelo Stiller has been linked with a move to Manchester United for a prolonged period as the club aimed to improve quality in the middle of the park.

Stiller, who can play as both a defensive midfielder and central midfielder, made 34 appearances in the Bundesliga for Stuttgart last season, scoring twice and providing five assists.

The 25-year-old has never played outside of Germany, having come through the Bayern Munich academy, and represents Germany at international level.

Reports last summer suggested that Stiller was close to joining Manchester United although links between the two parties ultimately turned out to be false.

Later news revealed that Manchester United had attempted to sign the midfielder last summer but were too late, leading to the club missing out.

Stuttgart have laid out their demands and want £43.5 million for the German international in any potential deal.

Kicker now report that Newcastle United have joined the race for Angelo Stiller. The Toon are the third Premier League club to be linked with a move, after United and Chelsea.

Even with increasing interest, though, the outlet state that Stuttgart have no intention of letting the midfielder leave the club this summer.

Real Madrid and Juventus are also present in the race for Stiller although Madrid appear to have pulled back from their previous position amid growing speculation about the strategy that new manager Jose Mourinho will take in recruitment.

Manchester United, on the other hand, have signalled towards midfield as a key position for recruitment this summer.

Ederson looks likely to sign permanently after United and Atalanta struck a deal in the late stages of May. Outside of that, though, the club’s next move is unknown.

Angelo Stiller represents a reasonable option, one that Manchester United could look to sign as the transfer window progresses.
