Bruno Guimaraes’ impressive World Cup campaign has only intensified interest in his services, with the Newcastle United midfielder emerging as one of Brazil’s most influential performers in the group stage.
The 27-year-old has been a key figure for his national team, registering three assists so far and playing a central role in their progression to the knockout rounds, where Brazil are set to face Japan in the Round of 32.
His form has now translated into serious transfer attention, with Arsenal making an early move to test Newcastle’s resolve.
According to Brazilian outlet GE Globo, the English champions submitted an opening offer worth around £55 million for the Brazilian midfielder, but Newcastle quickly rejected the proposal.
Despite the setback, Arsenal are expected to return with an improved bid as they continue to pursue reinforcements in midfield.
The Gunners’ interest is being driven by their recruitment leadership, with Italian sporting director Adriano Berta a long-term admirer of the Newcastle captain.
Bruno Guimaraes remains under contract at St James’ Park until 2028, and Newcastle are determined not to lose one of their most important players, particularly after missing out on European football next season.
The Brazilian has been a cornerstone of Eddie Howe’s side since arriving, quickly becoming a fan favourite and club captain.
Manchester United have also previously been linked with the midfielder, although those suggestions were firmly played down earlier in the year.
At the time, reports of advanced negotiations were dismissed as inaccurate, with sources insisting there had been no formal progress between the clubs.
Eddie Howe himself also shut down speculation linking Guimaraes with a move away from Newcastle, making his stance on the midfielder very clear.
“I don’t even know how to respond to that, I don’t even think I should because it’s a waste of my energy.
“Bruno’s our captain, he’s fully committed, he’s injured at the moment, his only focus is coming back to fitness.”
Newcastle remain firm in their stance, but Arsenal’s renewed push is expected to keep the midfielder’s future firmly in the spotlight as the summer window develops.
