Newcastle United lost their last two Premier League matches before the international break. They lost to West Ham United and Brentford away from home.

Their previous match was a 3-1 loss to Brentford despite taking a 1-0 lead through a goal from Harvey Barnes. Newcastle's record in the league is now three wins, three draws, and five losses.

Manchester City is four points behind league leaders Arsenal, and their record after 11 matches is seven wins, one draw, and three losses. Man City picked up three crucial points against Liverpool before the international break.
