Newport County are having a disastrous season, sitting at the bottom of League Two after 12 years in the competition.

However, all is not lost as the fight to avoid is still relatively close.

Only four points separate 24th-place Newport County and 20th-place Bristol Rovers, with just under half the season still to go.

Newport will however, be heading through the rest of the season without one of their defenders, as Habeeb Ogunneye is heading back to Carrington.

The young right-back joined the South Wales side in the summer, however his time in League Two has come to an end.

Last week, CentreDevils revealed that the defender was set to be recalled by United, and now Newport have confirmed the news.

Taking to their official website, Newport County confirmed: “Newport County AFC wish to express their thanks to Habeeb Ogunneye, who has returned to Premiership Manchester United after his loan spell ended at Rodney Parade.”

The statement continued: “The 20-year-old, landed at NP19 last summer, making 20 appearances, scoring in the 2-1 home defeat to MK Dons on August 23.

“Hackney-born Ogunneye has come through the Manchester United youth ranks and has see numerous games for United’s U-21s.

“The defender leaves Gwent with all at County hopeful that the popular player sees a successful future. ”
