The Montreal Canadiens are right in the mix, playing meaningful hockey in March and April, as that was the expectation. They kept everyone at the deadline, and every game matters for the Canadiens. Lane Hutson is staking his claim to the Calder Trophy, as GM Kent Hughes plans ahead of the future and is active in the offseason.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have some big questions this off-season with pending unrestricted free agents John Tavares and Mitch Marner. Marner could go to July 1 and actually leave Toronto.
– The Ottawa Senators showing they are for real this season with the acquisition of Dylan Cozens. In addition, the Senators are making contributions throughout the lineup, and Brady Tkachuk is staying in Ottawa and using his Four Nations experience to his advantage.
– With the trade-in division, what is going on with the Buffalo Sabres? Ramus Dahlin wants to stay, but how do the Sabres fix their culture of losing, get back to winning and end the playoff drought?
– Speaking of the Canucks, along with Elias Pettersson, they have a Brock Boeser dilemma, as GM Patrik Allvin’s comments said it all when it came to Boeser and his time in Vancouver. It appears Boeser is bound to leave Vancouver.
– What is going on in Carolina? Why can’t the Hurricanes keep skilled players long-term? Will GM Eric Tulsky learn from the fiasco of the Mikko Rantanen trade moving forward?
