Lisandro Martinez has made the news in recent days, but not for reasons on the pitch.
Martinez captained Manchester United to a 2-0 win against Manchester City on the Premier League’s early Saturday kickoff.
Goals from Bryan Mbuemo and Patrick Dorgu meant that United ended the Premier League weekend in fifth place and just one point off fourth place Liverpool.
Butt and Scholes spoke on their podcast, The Good, the Bad & the Football, about Martinez.
Speaking on his upcoming battle with Erling Haaland, the pair feared the worst.
However, it was a comfortable day for Martinez and Man United.
Lisandro Martinez spoke after the game. He said: “‘I told him already, if he wants to say something to me, he can come to me wherever he wants.
“To my house, wherever. I don’t care.”
Both Butt and Scholes praised his performance, but also called him “precious”.
“I think when someone gets so upset about someone in the media or a podcast saying something about them, to come out and start saying they can come to me house. F*****g grow up.”, said Butt.
“If you’re going to get so emotional about someone saying something about you and react like that, you shouldn’t be at a big football club”
“I’m telling you now he’s gonna get that for the rest of his career at Man United.
“You’re going to get get your ups, you’re going to get your downs. I got so much c**p when I played at Man United and Newcastle but then the next week you get you get you applauded.”
Scholes also spoke on the situation, whilst also revealing that he and Martinez had exchanged messages.
“But again as Nicky said, we’re just having a laugh about it.
“If it was about you, you probably would be upset, but as Nicky said you’ve got to give him credit. He was brilliant.
“We exchanged messages on Instagram quite some time ago. He wasn’t happy with something I said in the past. It wouldn’t have said this normally but he’s come out and said stuff so why not.
‘He said he’d lost all kinds of respect for me. As Nicky said two minutes ago, you’re at Man United, probably the biggest club in the world. At some point, as we did as players, you are gonna take some criticism. You’ve got to deal with that.
“He’s had one brilliant game. When you start talking or shouting your mouth off, this game has a habit of coming and biting you back on the a**e.
United’s next game sees them face an away trip to league leaders Arsenal.
Should they have a result similar to the City win, then this would represent the perfect start for interim manager Michael Carrick.
