'No-brainer'- Ally McCoist backs Tottenham to sign Premier League star

Tottenham have seen their first bid for Mohammed Kudus being rejected by West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur need new signings as soon as possible to begin the revolution under Thomas Frank.

Spurs announced that both Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel have joined the club permanently, but they are yet to get going in the transfer market in contrast to their rivals who have bolstered their squads with quality signings. This is a big worry for everyone associated with the club, especially the fans, who would have expected Daniel Levy and Co. to be proactive in the transfer market after the club’s worst-ever Premier League season last term.

The Lilywhites are targeting attacking players as a priority following their struggles in the final third in patches during the 2024/25 campaign. This has been well-documented with their interest in several attackers, including West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus.

Mohammed Kudus has become a concrete target for Tottenham after coming to terms that Crystal Palace’s creative midfielder Eberechi Eze is favouring a move to our bitter rivals Arsenal. The 24-year-old had an up-and-down second season with West Ham, delivering just nine goal contributions. Yet, he is a hugely coveted commodity in the Premier League and across Europe, and Spurs have accelerated their efforts to sign him this summer.

Daniel Levy is willing to put aside Tottenham’s ill feelings toward the Hammers and make Kudus the North London outfit’s first signing since Scott Parker made the move across the capital in 2011. Spurs are now in talks with West Ham over a summer deal for the Ghanaian international, who could be sold for £60million despite having a £85million release clause.

Former Rangers and Scotland icon Ally McCoist has now given his verdict on Kudus links with Tottenham. He says the chance to land the 24-year-old for much less than his release clause from a rival Premier League club stands as a “no-brainer” for Spurs.

“[Signing Kudus] is a no-brainer for Tottenham. I think he’s a terrific player, I really do. I like him a lot, Kudus,” Ally McCoist said on talkSPORT.

“West Ham would not want to see the back of him, that’s for sure.”

The Lilywhites had their first bid worth £55million for Kudus rejected by the Hammers on Wednesday. The two clubs remain in dialogue to get a deal done, with West Ham requiring funds to back their manager, Graham Potter, in the transfer market.

As for Tottenham, Kudus would be an excellent addition to Thomas Frank’s side. He’d bring flair, energy, dynamism and variety to their attack, whilst adding much-needed quality squad depth. If we can agree a deal for around £60 million for the African star, it would represent a coup of sorts.
