No Champions League club made substantial approach for Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo?

It appears that the summer transfer window will close on Thursday with superstar Cristiano Ronaldo still attached to Premier League club Manchester United.

According to ESPN's Rob Dawson and London sports radio station TalkSport, United manager Erik ten Hag told reporters Wednesday that Ronaldo will remain with the club at least into the fall months.

"It is clear. We need quality players. You need more to cover all the games," ten Hag explained as he and his staff are preparing for a crowded fixture list that will soon include Europa League matches.

Ronaldo's future at Old Trafford first became in doubt when he skipped a preseason tour of Thailand and Australia amid rumors he wanted to leave United to join a team playing in the prestigious UEFA Champions League competition. Stories later emerged this month claiming that United could consider terminating Ronaldo's contract after they lost their first two Premier League games of the campaign.

United have since notched back-to-back wins and sit 11th in the league table.

Most recently, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner had been linked with potential moves to Napoli and Chelsea. It was said in July that the 37-year-old rejected an offer from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club that allegedly was willing to pay him €275 million in wages for the next two seasons. The Athletic reported Wednesday that team was Al Hilal but also added that United never "received substantial approaches from major Champions League clubs" for Ronaldo's services.

CR7 netted 24 goals across all competitions last season.
