Tottenham Hotspur have adopted the transfer policy of recruiting young and hungry talent with high ceiling in recent years. They have been looking in particular not only to buy teenage talent from outside for their first team, but also to integrate academy talent into the senior setup.
One such player is Mikey Moore, in whom the North London outfit have put a lot of faith. He is arguably the most exciting talent to emerge from the Tottenham academy in recent years.
Mikey Moore broke into the Spurs first team last season, making appearances in the final two Premier League games. The teenage sensation was getting opportunities to express this season until a bad virus hit him, putting him on the sidelines for several months. Since recovering from the virus, the winger has barely featured for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Dominic Solanke has now given his verdict on Moore. Speaking to Rio Ferdinand on his official YouTube channel, the Spurs striker was full of praise for the England youth international, who James Maddison likened to Neymar earlier this season.
“Other than the obvious two, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall that have been playing quite a bit this season, they have huge careers ahead of them, they’ve been really good this season, someone that hasn’t played as much, Mikey Moore,” Dominic Solanke said about Moore.
“He’s a really talented boy, very direct and a good winger so I think he’s got a bright future as well.”
Tottenham have had quite a few issues with injuries this season. They have had chronic injury concerns in defence, with four of their regular back five (including the goalkeeper) missing significant chunks of the season, while they have had issues higher up the pitch as well.
That opened the window for Ange to give chances to young players, and talents like Moore, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray were the biggest beneficiaries. After recovering from his illness, Moore has struggled for opportunities in the senior team under Ange. He has made eight Premier League appearances thus far this term, including a 22-minute cameo in the 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Sunday.
The native from Southwark is a special talent, and Spurs must protect him at all costs whilst taking extra caution in his development. Moore is a player with bags of potential, and he has already given flashes of that in the first-team appearances he has made to date. It is only a matter of time before the teenager becomes a regular part of the first team at N17.
