Manchester United still have decisions to make in several areas of the squad before the summer transfer window closes.

The left-back position is one of the areas that requires attention, with Luke Shaw currently the only recognised senior option in that role.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui can both operate on the left, although both are naturally more comfortable playing on the right.

That leaves United having to carefully weigh up their options, particularly with the future of one of their young defenders still uncertain.

Harry Amass impressed during United’s pre-season preparations after returning from his loan spell and featured regularly in the summer friendlies.

Norwich City are interested in bringing Manchester United youngster Harry Amass back to Carrow Road on loan, but United are believed to want stronger guarantees over his future, as reported by The Sun.

The Canaries are keen on another temporary deal for the 19-year-old, although United would reportedly prefer any loan arrangement to include at least an obligation to buy.

That stance comes despite the Reds being short of natural left-backs, with Harry Amass himself having featured at left-back during pre-season, including a start against Leeds United.

Amass spent part of last season with Norwich, but his spell was disrupted after he suffered a hamstring injury just two weeks into February training.

The teenager had reportedly been pushing for another loan move this season back in June, but his situation has now developed further, with a permanent departure increasingly considered possible.

United know there could be significant value in selling Amass given his talent, and well-placed sources believe a permanent transfer is now more likely than another straightforward loan.

His current contract runs until next year and includes an option for United to extend it by a further 12 months, making the next decision in his development particularly important.

For Amass, the priority is regular first-team football and taking the next step in his career, whether that ultimately comes at Old Trafford or elsewhere.

For United, however, the situation is complicated by their own squad needs.

The club are reportedly still looking for a left-back, meaning allowing Amass to leave while Shaw remains their only established senior option would leave another gap to fill.

Norwich’s renewed interest could therefore provide United with an opportunity to resolve Amass’s future, but the Reds appear keen to make sure any deal protects their position.
