There has been a confusing new update released on a pending new Chelsea signing this week that will puzzle many.

Chelsea beat Benfica in the first set of knockout rounds in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, but it was far from easy and also, very far from drama!

Enzo Maresca labelled it a joke that the game got suspended for two hours due to sever weather conditions and slammed the tournament location as a result, and he really does have a point here.

And then came a flurry of late goal with Benfica equalising deep into stoppage time through a penalty to send it into extra time. Chelsea then bagged a bunch of goals to go on and win the game before it got to penalties!

Chelsea signing Gittens

Every report you read says that Jamie Gittens will soon be announced as a new Chelsea player and will join Joao Pedro in being announced, and Liam Delap who is already there.

Pedro is expected to be announced any moment now from Brighton joining Chelsea this summer and will play for them in the remainder of the Club World Cup.

Confusing Gittens updates though

On Monday, sporting director Sebastian Kehl said Gitten’s move to Chelsea isn’t finalised yet. He said the player was released to have talks with a club, likely Chelsea.

Sport1 states the 20-year-old has returned to the Dortmundcamp, after undergoing medical tests with Chelsea and completing them.

Prior to yesterday, DAZN spoke to Dortmund manager director, Lars Ricken, and Sport1 have relayed his comments. He claims Gittens has  rejoined the group and explained why he won’t be in action.

“He’s in the hotel. We released him briefly once for discussions, but he’s back now,” he said.

“I think it’s in the interest of everyone involved not to take too great a risk that a player might get injured.”

Sport1 states the attacker’s move to Chelsea is ‘imminent but not a done deal yet’. They add final details are being sorted so that Gittens can join The Blues.

“Nothing’s set in stone yet, and if anything, it will take a while,” Ricken explained

“If there were a strong probability that such a transfer would work out, I would announce it here, but obviously I won’t.”
