Nottingham Forest could soon carve out an unwanted place in Premier League history after parting ways with Sean Dyche.

The recent dismissal made Dyche the club’s third permanent manager of the 2025/26 campaign, following earlier spells under Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, who lasted just 39 days in charge.

With no confirmation yet on whether the next appointment will be permanent or interim, Forest now stand at a potentially historic crossroads.

Forest on brink of unprecedented managerial record

Should Forest appoint another full-time manager before the season ends, they would become the first club in Premier League history to have four permanent managers in a single campaign.

Prior to this season, no Premier League side had moved beyond three permanent appointments in one year, even though some clubs recorded higher totals when caretaker spells were included.

Forest have already equalled the previous benchmark for permanent managerial changes in a single season.

A fourth permanent hire would therefore push the club into entirely new territory in the modern era.

Decision over next appointment carries major implications

The immediate question is whether Forest opt for a caretaker to steady the ship through the run-in or move swiftly for another long-term solution.

An interim appointment would delay any record-breaking milestone until a permanent successor is named.

Frequent managerial upheaval has often coincided with relegation battles, with many clubs making multiple changes, struggling to secure safety.

Forest’s next move will influence both their position in the table and whether they formally enter the record books.
