The Red Devils have been linked to Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap

Manchester United have struggled to score goals in the 2024/25 Premier League season. They are experiencing their worst campaign in English football’s top flight. Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee have not performed as expected, leaving the team without answers in attack. The lack of creativity and finishing has affected their overall performance. Fans are frustrated with the team’s lack of effectiveness in front of the goal. The team needs to sign a top-level striker in the next transfer window, and without quality reinforcements, the situation could worsen even further next season.

David Ornstein earlier reported that Manchester United has been linked with several forwards, including Viktor Gyokeres, Victor Osimhen, Benjamin Sesko, and Patrick Schick. However, according to Ornstein, the main target right now is Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap. Delap has a £30 million release clause and has already garnered interest after scoring 12 goals this season. Chelsea also want him, while Everton is looking to get ahead of everyone else.

Nottingham Forest enter the race to sign Manchester United target Liam Delap

Qualifying for the Champions League isn’t mandatory to sign him, although it would play a role. The extra money could decide whether United manage to overtake their rivals in this race. Nottingham Forest have joined the race to sign Liam Delap, according to Football Insider. The club wants competition for Chris Wood and sees Delap as a viable option. This complicates the plans of Manchester United, who already had him as their main target.

Forest’s arrival could force United to act more quickly or increase their offer. Although they have more resources, another suitor with serious interest could raise the price. If they don’t move soon, they could lose a striker they saw as an immediate solution to their lack of goalscoring potential. The pressure is mounting at Old Trafford.

Liam Delap is a powerful striker, with good pace and a strong physical presence. He has an instinct for moving between the lines and attacking spaces. He knows how to press high and doesn’t shy away from contact, qualities that fit well with a team that seeks aggression off the ball.

Under Amorim, Delap could adapt to his pressing system and transitions in counterattack. In a setup with two forwards or a mobile trident, the Englishman would serve as a key player or second striker. His off-the-ball work and ability to carry players would give space to the creative players. He can work if he receives constant support. Manchester United must stop looking at big names for a moment and sign Delap now. Waiting could cost them dearly. If they really want him, they need to activate the release clause straightforwardly and show the player that he will be important from day one.

It is not just about money. They also need to convince him with a clear plan. Show him playing time, confidence, and a style that suits him. If Forest and Chelsea see an opportunity, they will seize it. United can still prevail, but they need determination. Doubts have left them behind in other transfers. This time, they can’t afford to waver.
