Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield to play for final spot in Premier League

Nottingham Forest F.C. and Huddersfield Town AFC will meet at Wembley Stadium on May 29 with promotion to the Premier League on the line.

The top two teams in the EFL Championship -- the second tier of the English soccer system -- automatically qualify for promotion to the Premier League. Fulham and Bournemouth already earned those spots, while the teams that finished third through sixth have a playoff for the final berth.

Huddersfield beat Luton Town, 2-1, on aggregate to reach the promotion playoff final. On Tuesday, Nottingham Forest earned its spot by beating Sheffield United in penalty kicks.

While Huddersfield was in the Premier League just a few years ago before being relegated in 2019, Nottingham Forest hasn't been in the top tier since it was relegated from the Premier League in 1999. Nottingham Forest was even a third tier team before it was promoted to the EFL Championship in 2008.

Norwich City and Watford will be relegated at the end of the Premier League season and the final team to get sent down will be Burnley, Leeds United, Everton, or Southampton.
