Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United: Match Preview
Lucas Peltier-Imagn Images

The high-flying Manchester United will be in Premier League action this Saturday as Ruben Amorim & Co. takes a trip to West Bridgford with the Premier League heavyweights scheduled to face Nottingham Forest. This will be an opportunity for Utd to kick off November on a high, given the club’s three straight league wins that have changed the mood around Old Trafford.

Man United enjoyed a 4-2 win over Brighton last weekend at Old Trafford. While it was a poor second-half performance, a strong first half meant that Amorim’s men kept a strong hold on the three points till the final whistle. United have won each of their three league games in October, and it comes to an aggregate of four wins from their last five games. This run of form has taken them to sixth place in the Premier League table as they go into the weekend level on points with Manchester City.

And they will face a rather unsettled Nottingham Forest side, given they are already down to their third manager of the season. Going into the game, they are down in 18th and have only one league win to their name this season, which came on the opening day. And their domestic campaign has remained rocky despite their recent win in the Europa League.

But that being said, they now have Sean Dyche at the helm at City Ground. And he is one man who knows English football from its scuff. And he would be looking to get himself a statement result for his new employers announcing his arrival.

Team News

Manchester United

Harry Maguire was not part of the Manchester Reds’ win over Brighton & Hove Albion. He could be in line to return for the visitors this weekend. While Mason Mount was an unused substitute after he was flagged as doubtful last weekend, he should also be pushing for some minutes against Forest.

We saw Leny Yoro and Benjamin Sesko taking up the starting roles against the Seagulls for the aforementioned duo. And there is a chance that both of them will keep their place in the eleven.

While Lisandro Martinez will continue his recovery from his long-term layoff, and this weekend’s game will still be a bit too soon for the Argentine.

Nottingham Forest

For the hosts, they will still be without Ola Aina and Dilane Bakwa. The former is out for a while with his hamstring injury. While Sean Dyche will be sweating over Oleksandr Zinchenko and Chris Wood’s fitness going into the game, with a possible late call to be expectedly taken for the duo.

Pre-game tactical know-how

Amorim has been recently playing more of a hybrid backline which shuffles between a three and a four depending on the game situation. This has led to great rewards, as we have seen an upside in form.

And with Amad at RWB, he brings those attacking dribbles which allow Mbeumo to operate more in his preferred inside role.

But United are facing a Sean Dyche side. He is known for his defensive stability. He will try to prevent any direct attacking threats, and that will start with marking Sesko very closely. And then avoiding pocket spaces for creative players like Bruno.

Someone like Cunha should come to use in these types of games given how he drives with the ball at his feet.

Predicted Lineup

Newcastle United:

Sels; Savona, Milenkovic, Murillo, Williams; Luiz, Anderson; Ndoye, Gibbs-White, Hudson-Odoi; Igor Jesus

Manchester United:

Lammens; Shaw, de Ligt, Yoro; Dalot, Fernandes, Casemiro, Amad; Cunha, Sesko, Mbeumo

Prediction

City Ground has traditionally been a difficult away ground to visit, given how it is shaped with people quite close to the play. And then there is the Sean Dyche factor. But we think that United’s current form is too good for Dyche to keep Amorim & Co. out.

Nottingham 0 – 1 Man United
