Oakland County have officially confirmed the signing of Florentin Pogba as they construct their squad for the upcoming charity match they are due to play on the 24th of May.
Florentin, the brother of former Manchester United star Paul, has previous experience with a variety of football clubs including Atlanta United and AS Saint-Étienne.
The 35-year-old also currently plays for Stade Poitevin and has featured seven times for the club since joining them.
Whilst Paul Pogba looks set to return from injury to face Marseille, his brother will be competing in the charity match for Weiss OCFC, which represents Michigan and Oakland County FC who currently play in USL League Two in America.
The “Weiss” part of the team name comes as a result of a sponsorship by Weiss Distilling Co and makes the team more easily distinguishable in comparison to other teams competing.
Following the charity match, the 35-year-old will also play for the team in The Soccer Tournament (TST) which has a prize pool of $1 million.
The tournament will be a seven-a-side with a winner takes all format. Known for being high scoring, exciting, and non-stop, Pogba’s skills as a central defender will be put to the test if Oakland County are to come out on top and win the prize money and trophy.
The central defender will play alongside players such as Mikey Stone, who has played in England for Macclesfield Town, and Claude Dielna as the team aims for success.
Pogba’s signing adds clear quality to the squad whilst also establishing more depth in defensive positions which could help the team when playing in the tournament.
Focus will now switch towards the upcoming charity match and tournament to see if Florentin Pogba can use his experience and abilities to push Oakland County towards winning the tournament, its prize money, and the trophy on offer.
