Official: After 18 years Reiss Nelson leaves Arsenal

Reiss Nelson and Arsenal have mutually terminated his contract, and the winger is now a free agent as he looks to move and rebuild his career at another club, Arsenal Media announces.

Nelson had been at the club for 18 years after becoming one of their Hale End graduates to break into the first team following his fine form at the academy. He developed quickly during his days playing for Arsenal’s youth teams, which led to his promotion to the senior side as the Gunners wanted him to succeed.

He had several good moments with the senior side, but he never managed to establish himself as a regular and was sent out on loan on several occasions. These loan spells initially took him outside England, as he played for Hoffenheim and Feyenoord, before also moving on loan to Fulham and Brentford.

His spells away from Arsenal were often affected by injuries, but there is no doubt that he is a quality player. The winger now wants some control over where he moves next, with his contract termination allowing him to consider opportunities elsewhere.

Nelson’s long association with Arsenal has now come to an end after 18 years at the club. Having progressed through the academy and reached the first team, he leaves with experience of playing for the Gunners as well as several loan spells away from North London.
