It was already known to the public, but AC Milan have now officially announced the departure of Antonio Mirante. The veteran’s contract will expire at the end of June and it will not be renewed, following two and half years at the club.

Mirante joined Milan as an emergency solution in the 2021-22 season, as Mike Maignan suffered an injury which kept him out for nine games. However, the goalkeeper didn’t make his first appearance until the final game of the 2022-23 season, coming on for the final minute.

Many expected that to be the goalkeeper’s last season but, instead, he renewed with the club for one year and that turned out to be helpful. Indeed, he got to play from start against Juventus this season as both Maignan and Marco Sportiello were injured, making several good stops in the 1-0 defeat.

After starting the game last night, his third appearance for the club, Milan announced Mirante’s departure on social media this morning. It’s also expected that he will hang up his boots, ending his career on a relative high with a second-place finish.
