Tottenham Hotspur chief Daniel Levy has adapted the recruitment strategy of investing in highly regarded prospects over the last few years. The signings of Lucas Bergvall, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Antonin Kinsky and Mathys Tel and a few more are prime examples of that.
In addition to bringing in young, burgeoning talents with bags of potential, the club have prioritised handing professional contracts to the academy products. They have tied down some of their talented youngsters in recent weeks.
In March, the Lilywhites secured the futures of three academy products. Sam Archer and Malachi Hardy signed their first professional contracts, before fellow academy kid Jamel Beggs followed suit. Now, another academy starlet has become the latest to put pen to paper at Enfield.
Tottenham officially announced on Wednesday evening that Callum Olusesi has signed a new contract until the summer of 2029.
Callum Olusesi has progressed through the club’s youth system and is now a known entity within the senior team. The central midfielder was part of our young side that won the Under-17 and Under-18 Premier League Cup double in 2022/23 before making his Under-21s debut towards the end of our Premier League 2 title-winning campaign last year.
The England Under-18 international began the season with the Under-21s and quickly took over the captain’s armband. He has netted four goals in nine Premier League 2 appearances so far this campaign.
Olusesi, who only turned 18 last month, made his first-team debut for Spurs earlier this year from the bench in their 3-2 victory over Hoffenheim in the Europa League in January. He has been an unused substitute on 12 occasions in the Premier League, too. The midfielder has regularly trained with Ange Postecoglou’s first-team squad this season and represented England at last summer’s Under-17 European Championship.
An exclusive report from Football Insider claims that the teenage prodigy has decided to stay at Tottenham despite attracting interest from a host of other clubs, including Ajax, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain and Harry Kane’s Bayern Munich. The new contract has made him one of the highest earners in Spurs’ academy.
Olusesi rejecting advances from some of the European powerhouses and penning a three-year contract shows the faith he has in the club’s project. It is also a mini-achievement from Daniel Levy and Co., which suggests the direction they want to take Tottenham.
After making just one appearance back in January, Olusesi will be hoping for more first-team chances as the season progresses.
