Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi has decided to start Emil Audero in goal, Davy Klaassen in midfield, and Yann Bisseck against Benfica. This evening’s Champions League group stage matchday five clash has kickoff scheduled for 21.00 CET.
This evening, Inzaghi has made a whole raft of changes to his team.
In comparison to the team that drew away to Juventus over the weekend, there are a whopping eight changes.
Therefore there will be a chance for some rarely-seen faces to get out on the pitch.
Firstly, the big news – goalkeeper Emil Audero gets his first Inter start.
The 26-year-old joined Inter on loan from Sampdoria during the summer. However, he has not yet played a minute for the Nerazzurri – Yann Sommer has been omnipresent.
But Inzaghi is giving Audero his chance this evening.
Meanwhile, Audero isn’t the only big change compared to the weekend.
Inzaghi has completely changed up his midfield in attack.
That means that in the centre of the pitch all of Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Hakan Calhanoglu drop to the bench.
Replacing them in the lineup are Davy Klaassen, Kristjan Asllani, and Davide Frattesi.
Then in attack, it is Marko Arnautovic and Alexis Sanchez who start.
The veteran former Premier League duo replace Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram.
Then in defense, the changes are not as dramatic.
Young German defender Yann Bisseck comes into the lineup.
The 22-year-old is making his second start for Inter – the first was also in the Champions League, away to Red Bull Salzburg.
But the rest of the defense is untouched compared to the weekend. Therefore, former Lazio coach Inzaghi has stuck with two ex-Biancocelesti veterans.
Francesco Acerbi starts on the left of the back three. Then, Stefan de Vrij keeps his place at the heart of defense.
Lastly, on the flanks Carlos Augusto comes in for Federico Dimarco on the left.
Then at right-wingback, versatile former Manchester United and Torino defender Matteo Darmian keeps his place from Sunday’s match. However, the 33-year-old plays higher up the pitch this time around.
