Manchester United are already moving on plans to replace Ruben Amorim as manager, having sacked the Portuguese boss yesterday.
As expected, several names are surfacing to replace the Portuguese manager, with several former United players stepping into the fray to help stabilise the club.
Whilst Darren Fletcher has taken charge of preparation for the clash with Burnley, a caretaker manager is being appointed to see out the rest of the season.
Now, The Athletic has reported that former manager and club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been approached to take on the role.
The report explains that Solskjaer is the leading contender for the position, with a permanent manager being appointed in the summer.
CentreDevils revealed earlier today that Solskjaer is reportedly keen for a return to Old Trafford, even considering doing the job for free in a bid to redeem himself and “rewrite the mistakes” of his stint in the hot seat.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer moved to Old Trafford for the first time in 1996, as part of Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad that would go on to win, with six Premier League titles, the Champions League, and four domestic cups including the iconic 1999 treble.
He ultimately retired from playing with United in 2006, joining the United coaching staff as the forward coach a year later before managing the Under-18s in 2008.
After leaving in 2011 for two stints with Molde either side fo Cardiff City, Solskjaer returned once more in 2018 as a caretaker manager following the departure of Jose Mourinho.
In a matter of three months, Solskjaer was appointed as the permanent manager, seeing him lead The Red Devils for two and a half years before being sacked in 2021.
Now, the former striker is keen for a return, and with United already approaching him, it’s fair to expect that news of his appointment isn’t far off.
