Ole Gunnar Solskjaer asks Man U fans to let Liverpool game happen Thursday

The May 2 Premier League match between rivals Manchester United and Liverpool was postponed to this Thursday after groups of angry United supporters stormed into Old Trafford and broke onto the pitch while protesting their club's involvement in the abandoned European Super League project.

While more protests are expected ahead of Thursday's clash between the clubs, United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has asked fans to allow the game to go on as scheduled.

"Security measures are being looked at and I hope we can keep the protests, if there are protests, keep them down to loud voices and nothing violent," he said, per Rob Dawson of ESPN. "We want to listen, the players want to play the game, we're playing Liverpool and of course we want to beat Liverpool and we want to beat Leicester (on Tuesday) so we're going to do everything we can for our fans to celebrate what we're doing on the pitch."

United will play four Premier League matches between Tuesday and May 23 and also have the Europa League final versus Villarreal on May 26. United sit second in the Premier League table but are 10 points off leaders and uncrowned champions Manchester City. Liverpool are sixth and trail Leicester City by six points in the race for a top-four finish and Champions League qualification but have a game in hand over Leicester.
