Osasuna have named Vicente Moreno as their new coach for the upcoming season, as he replaces Jagoba Arrasate, who decided not to renew his deal with Los Rojillo.

Arrasate looks set to join RCD Mallorca this summer, and Osasuna had been heavily linked with Rubi, but Sporting Director Braulio Vazquez has placed their faith in Moreno, although only on a one-year deal.

Moreno, who has previous La Liga experience with Mallorca and Espanyol, started last season with Almeria, but was sacked after just seven games, failing to win any of them. Prior to that and after keeping Espanyol up, he spent a year at Al-Shabab. Arriving with Moreno will be three staff members, Dani Pendin as assistant, Dani Pastor as head of performance and Ramon Alturo as an analyst.

His appointment is unlikely to set the world alight at El Sadar, but he does have a consistent track record of midtable finishes in La Liga, save for one season at Mallorca, when they were relegated in 2020. In four of Arrasate’s six seasons at Osasuna, he guided them to 10th or 11th-place finishes, as was the case this year.
