Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison has been subject to links with a move away from Hotspur Way in the ongoing summer transfer window, with a huge section of the Lilywhites supporters not expecting him to be among the roster when the Premier League resumes next month given the Brazilian international’s consistent injury problems complemented by his inconsistencies in front of goal when he is fit.
The North Londoners forked out a mammoth £60 million fee to bring him to Hotspur Way from Everton in 2022, with the hope among the chiefs being that he would bring a sense of grit upfront complemented by a lot of goals and versatility, but what Tottenham got was… only glimpses. Just moments. And it is nowhere near enough.
And now, by the sound of it, it looks like Brazilian giants Palmeiras are sniffing around for a potential move to take the former Watford ace back to Brazil, but that will come through with a £55m price tag hurdle given that the Lilywhites chief Daniel Levy is reportedly holding out for a fee that looks and feels pretty optimistic.
There have been reports suggesting that Palmeiras have been in touch with the Premier League heavyweights to take Richarlison away from Tottenham despite his desire to remain at the club and prove his credentials, but the Brazilian giants are not even entertaining the idea of paying that kind of money for the Brazilian. And speaking on Tottenham News, former Lilywhites scout said that even £20m might be a stretch to get for Richy. He said:
“I can’t see them (Palmeiras) paying £55m for Richarlison.
“If I were Tottenham, I’d be taking any amount of money to get him off the books. We’ve been saying this now for 14 months. He’s not a Tottenham player; he’s never proved that he’s a Tottenham player.
“He was a £50m man, how can he be in the team one week and out the next? It’s been that way ever since he came to the football club. If Tottenham get a decent offer for him, anything above £20m, he’ll be out the door.”
And honestly, he is not wrong. If we are thinking about a figure within sounds of fifty million, it might sound low for a Brazilian international, but then if we look into his stats across three seasons, he has scored 20 goals and laid along just 10 assists. And that’s just not good enough.
With Dane head coach Thomas Frank now calling shots at Hotspur Way, things are changing fast, and we saw that with the arrival of Kudus earlier this month. With Morgan Gibbs-White looking next, followed by links with a possible move for Wissa. Heung-min Son, Mathys Tel, Kulusevski, and Mikey Moore are all ahead of Richarlison in the pecking order. And let me not even mention Dominic Solanke.
Richarlison is a talented player, and no one is denying that, but we also have to accept that the former Everton ace never quite clicked during his time at Hotspur Way, given how he spent time between injuries and patchy form complemented by how he was played out of position quite too often; it does look time for him to call curtains to his time in North London.
