Igor Paixao has been repeatedly linked with a move to Serie A this summer for Roma and Atalanta, but Feyenoord confirmed a serious injury which might stall any transfer.
The attacking winger had a sensational campaign with 18 goals and 19 assists in 47 competitive appearances for the Dutch team, which earned him a lot of interest from around Europe.
In particular, he was mentioned as a primary target for Roma, as Gian Piero Gasperini had already tried to sign him for Atalanta last season.
Now any transfer might have to wait, because he sustained a serious muscular injury during pre-season training on Thursday.
Feyenoord released a statement confirming this was worse than previously thought, as he is going to be out “for several weeks” and will “miss the start of the 2025-26 season.”
It inevitably means that any club interested in making a bid for Paixao is going to reconsider in the light of this setback.
The Brazilian only recently celebrated his 25th birthday last month and is under contract with the Dutch side until June 2029.
