Paris Saint-Germain reportedly won't wait much longer for superstar Kylian Mbappe to decide his future.
According to Peter Rutzler of The Athletic, French outlet L'Équipe revealed that Paris Saint-Germain sent a three-page letter to Mbappe and notified him he has until July 31 to sign a new contract with the club or risk being sold. That story emerged after Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi told reporters Wednesday that Mbappe must put pen to paper on a new deal to remain with the club through the upcoming campaign.
In June, Mbappe informed Paris Saint-Germain via a different letter he will not trigger an extension clause attached to the contract he signed last May and will instead leave the Parisians as a free agent next summer. Al-Khelaifi insisted Wednesday that "we don't want to lose the best player in the world for free," and Rutzler noted that the letter Paris Saint-Germain sent to Mbappe "ends by requesting a meeting to resolve the situation to avoid 'paralysis of the club'" before the end of this month.
Despite Al-Khelaifi's comments and Paris Saint-Germain's announced deadline, Sky Sports News shared on Thursday that "PSG privately accept that they cannot force Mbappe to sign an extension and they also cannot force him to leave against his wishes this summer." While Mbappe said in June he does not want to join Real Madrid during this transfer window, it was later reported that the Spanish giants are "hopeful" of landing the 24-year-old World Cup winner ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Paris Saint-Germain's latest letter accuses Mbappe of causing the club "enormous damage" and having "a lack of sincerity" regarding his existing contract. Sky Sports News mentioned that Paris Saint-Germain "would be happy to sell Mbappe to Real Madrid next summer if he commits to staying until 2025," but both his camp and Real Madrid ideally want to keep his transfer fee as low as possible if his true intentions are to head to the club he supported as a child as soon as August.
