Atalanta midfielder Mario Pasalic urged his side to ‘keep up’ their recent Champions League form as the Nerazzurri hope to beat Celtic at home and extend their European unbeaten streak this campaign to three games.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side host the Scottish outfit at the Gewiss Stadium on Wednesday and, despite a congested schedule, the 29-year-old believes that learning to cope with the high pace of Champions League fixtures can help Atalanta bring that intensity into their domestic campaign.
“It’s always nice to hear the Champions League anthem,” Pasalic said in a pre-match press conference, as quoted by TMW.
“We already played important games in the past, tomorrow it’ll be another one. We did well in the first two games, we want to keep up like this.
“[Playing European games] gives us a lot, you find intense teams in the Champions League, if you can keep up with that you can bring everything into the league games.
The Croatia international also commented on the renewed format of the competition: “Every game has its own history in football, you have to be at 100% to face everything.”
“Even now, after Celtic we’ll need to focus on Verona and start over again. Atalanta reached a very high level, everyone can help when needed.”
Pasalic recently scored his 50th Serie A goal in Atalanta’s 2-0 win at Venezia, a milestone that left him pleased although he insists on not being focused on ‘personal goals’.
“I could never imagine [he could score 50 goals]. I always try to help the team, it’s always nice to reach a historic milestone, especially looking at the list of Croatian players [scoring in Serie A], they’re all strikers.
“I have no personal goals, I always put the team first and focus on doing my best.”
Pasalic’s 50th top-tier goal was his first for Atalanta this season from 11 games across three different competitions.
The former Milan midfielder hasn’t started a Champions League game yet this campaign, as he came on as a substitute during his side’s first two European matches.

Tottenham are set to open formal talks with Crystal Palace for the signing of Eberechi Eze Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank watched on as his side capitulated against Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine on Wednesday. From 2-0 down, Paris Saint-Germain fought back to 2-2 in the dying minutes, courtesy of goals from substitutes Lee Kang-in and Goncalo Ramos, with the Les Parisians clinching the trophy on penalty shootout soon afterwards. There were many positives to take for Thomas Frank, who was “proud” of his team in the aftermath for what was a strong-willed and disciplined performance against Europe’s best team. The spirited performance was made all the more impressive considering the weakened Tottenham squad are still trying to find a way to manage without club legend Son Heung-min, who joined Los Angeles FC last week, alongside injured creative midfield duo James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski. Maddison will spend around six to seven months of the sidelines following an ACL rupture, and to immediately replace him in the squad, the Lilywhites have set their sights on Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze. Ex-scout expects Tottenham to make Eberechi Eze highest paid player After reports of Tottenham finding themselves ahead of bitter rivals Arsenal in the race for Eberechi Eze emerged earlier this week, reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Thursday that Spurs are set to open formal talks with Crystal Palace for the playmaker. Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is not keen on activating Eze’s £68m release clause, which expires on Friday (August 15), but added that the Eagles may still hold out for the full value. It is understood that the 27-year-old would be open to moving to White Hart Lane if the two clubs can agree on a fee. Now, ex-Spurs scout Bryan King feels that the England international could command over £200,000 weekly wages if the move does materialise. “Eze has moved from QPR to Palace and established himself as an international footballer and certainly one of the best in the Premier League,” Bryan King exclusively told Tottenham News. “One of the main reasons why he’d come to Spurs would be the wages. It’s going to be in excess of £200,000-a-week here, which would be a big rise from where he is at the moment. “Palace have won the FA Cup and they’ve won the Community Shield, maybe he (Eze) will feel that he’s fulfilled his time there and it could be time to move on. “Tottenham would be mad not to put an offer in, they’ve got to get it done. He’d be the perfect replacement for Maddison, and I think he’s a better player than Maddison.” Eze would be a class acquisition for Tottenham Eze is a proven commodity, someone who is ready to come in, replace Maddison and make an immediate impact at Tottenham. He has been one of the best creative talents in the top flight in recent years, whilst being a silky dribbler and ball progressor. The England international is also a fine set-piece taker and composed finisher in front of goal. Son was Tottenham’s highest paid player since Harry Kane departed two summers ago, with the South Korean international bagging £190,000 gross per week. With him gone now, Levy has the money to make Eze the highest earner if he moves to the club, but we doubt it will be above or in the region of £200,000 per week. The Tottenham chairman has always maintained a strict wage policy and will continue to do so, meaning Eze would significantly earn a lot here at N17 but not anywhere in the region of wages King predicts. As the playmaker is ready to join Frank’s forces, agreeing personal terms seemingly does not look like a problem with him.
The Golden State Warriors have had their free agency headlines dominated by one individual name, Jonathan Kuminga. For what feels like an eternity, the Warriors have been stuck in a standstill with Kuminga. The 22-year-old forward believes he's capable of being a max contract player, but the Warriors don't seem to have maximizing him in their current timeline - that much was evident after the team traded for Jimmy Butler. It's clear that Kuminga does not want to be a member of the Golden State Warriors any longer. Every day, a new headline emerges coming from either side of the camp, but no resolution has been found. As the headlines have been growing, Kuminga gave a simple message on social media. "And at the buzzer, the Golden State Warriors will say, 'Alright, well, we can't afford to lose him for nothing, and Malik Monk and a protected pick, that's much better than nothing. So let's go ahead, do the deal, and be done with it.' " While the Bulls and Bucks have trade interest, it seems like the package that they want from the Golden State Warriors may not work financially. Does Kuminga Staying With the Warriors Make Sense? Realistically, Jonathan Kuminga staying with the Golden State Warriors does not make sense. He does not want to play for the team, and the team did not play him consistently after acquiring Jimmy Butler. Even during the playoffs, he was only really used as an emergency scenario. For a team as serious about winning as the Warriors, it does not make sense to keep a younger player who could potentially disrupt the chemistry. At the same time, it makes sense for the team to want to get the maximum value out of Kuminga and not trade him hastily.
The NFL has dropped a fresh batch of names for their NFL “Top 100” list for the upcoming 2025 season, and Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs is among the players revealed. The former Alabama Crimson Tide star tailback has been ranked No. 33 overall. The Packers, who will be playing against the Indianapolis Colts this coming Saturday in a preseason game, rightfully acknowledged Jacobs’ position on the list by flexing it on social media. “Another year, another Josh Jacobs sighting in the NFL Top 100 , ” the Packers’ post on Instagram read. Jacobs appreciates Green Bay Packers’ flex on his Top 100 re-entry This is a return to the list for Jacobs, who was not part of the Top 100 in 2024. Before that, he was 13th overall in 2023, his last season with the Las Vegas Raiders. So, what did it take for Jacobs to get back into the list? He rushed for 1,329 yards and 15 touchdowns on 301 carries in his first year with the Packers, who will be relying a lot again on his legs to deliver the offense on the ground. Jacobs also showed appreciation for the Packers’ post, as he reposted it via IG Stories with a caption that read: “Grateful.” The three-time Pro Bowler is 27 and will turn 28 in February, but his best season in the NFL could still be in front of him. Together with quarterback Jordan Love, Jacobs will look to carry the bulk of the Packers’ offense, which was eighth in the league in 2024 with 27.1 points per game. Love and Rashan Garry are also the other Packers players who made it to the Top 100 in 2025.
When Green Bay Packers franchise quarterback Jordan Love is healthy and firing on all cylinders, he's proved to be one of the more exciting young signal-callers in the NFL. ESPN talking head Stephen A. Smith believes Love is an extremely talented quarterback, but he did challenge the former first-round pick when he was asked where the Packers will rank among the top teams in the NFC this season. Love can put up numbers, but Smith wants to see Green Bay's quarterback do it when it really matters. "When I look at the Green Bay Packers, Jordan Love is a stud, and I get that. The brother can play...in the regular season," Smith said on ESPN's "First Take" on Thursday. "I'm looking for him to show up in big moments." Smith believes the Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Commanders, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Detroit Lions are all ahead of the Packers in the NFC because Love has yet to prove that he can be a consistent playoff talent. He threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in his very first playoff appearance — a road win over the Dallas Cowboys — but in his last two playoff games, both losses, he's thrown for 406 yards and just two touchdowns compared to five interceptions. Three of those interceptions came last postseason in a wild-card loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. In order for the Packers to be contenders, Love has to prove that he can live up to the moment. It's a process for young quarterbacks, but he has all the pieces around him to be successful in 2025. Love is in the prime of his career, and there should be some high expectations on him as the Packers head into the 2025 season. General manager Brian Gutekunst has been clear that he wants the Packers to compete for championships, and they believe they have the quarterback to do it. That's why they gave Love a four-year $220 million contract extension heading into last season. Anyone can go out and have regular-season success. As such, Smith is right. Love has to start proving it in the playoffs.
