Fans have reacted to the shocking news that former Manchester United soccer player Patrice Evra will make his PFL debut, with an opponent yet to be announced.
Evra became one of the most successful soccer players in the club’s history, winning Premier League titles and the Champions League. He went down as arguably one of the best left-backs to have ever played for the club. Since his retirement, he has been engaging in some media work, having watched his former club fall from their former success. He had some huge moments during his career, one of which was a turbulent altercation with former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez.
Evra accused Suarez of using a racial term against him. The tension then increased when the pair met each other on the pitch. Suarez refused to shake his hand after Evra had put his hand out. That left a bitter note in their relationship, with Evra not having forgotten the incident that had occurred. Suarez would eventually leave Liverpool Football Club as he joined Barcelona, going on to achieve more success.
Now, Evra is moving in a new direction, as he will fight in the PFL. The PFL has shown that it is willing to give chances to new fighters, as they also signed Jake Paul. While Paul has yet to make his debut, Evra will make his debut at PFL Europe 2 from the Accor Arena in Paris on May 23. Evra will be 44, as he has indicated that he would like to fight Suarez in MMA.
“BREAKING: I’m officially training for my first fight with @PFLEurope. They will pick my opponent… They asked who I wanna face. I said: Luis Suárez. I’ll pay out of pocket. He can even bite me.” Evra also said: “You guys should know by now, I love this game too. “I’ve performed on the world’s biggest stages, won every major trophy in football, but PFL Europe Paris will be an incredibly special night for me. I’ve been training alongside the best in the world for years and they’ll also tell you I’m ready for this. I’m going to put on a show at the Accor Arena on May 23, so come watch the spectacle,” Evra said
“I’m told he loves this game as much as us, and we’ll find out on 23 May! We’re incredibly excited to have the superstar that is Patrice Evra fight under the PFL banner, as we’re all about exciting match-ups and making history. I can’t tell you how excited Patrice has been putting this together, but I think you’re going to see it at the Accor Arena. Paris, we’re coming to put on another historic evening of MMA, don’t miss out,” Peter Murray (PFL CEO)
