Manchester United have already been hit by injuries at left-back early on in the 2026/27 season.

By the first international break, Luke Shaw had missed his first Premier League match in over a year.

The 31-year-old failed to make the grade to train ahead of the Manchester derby, before missing the match altogether through his injury.

Patrick Dorgu is another option the Red Devils have on the left, but has tended to be played further up the pitch under Michael Carrick.

Despite having an inconsistent start to the new campaign, starting twice in the Premier League for Manchester United, Dorgu was called up for Denmark’s squad for a three-week international break.

Dorgu played off the right for Denmark against Norway in midweek in his first game of the break, and starred in a 3-2 loss that saw him pick up plenty of plaudits.

One outlet raved, “Patrick Dorgu played a great game on the right wing, where he got Denmark’s first shot, made several good crosses and was constantly dangerous against the Norwegians’ substitute left back, Frederik Aursnes. He was also responsible for the corner kick that led to Hojlund’s goal.”

However, the 21-year-old’s international break has gone from good to bad quickly.

Against Wales in the UEFA Nations League, Dorgu started once again, and looked lively, but was forced off in the 31st minute through injury.

The speedy international limped off the pitch and was replaced by Reims winger Mohamed Daramy.

It’s a worry for Manchester United, though the nature of the substitution will hopefully mean the change was just precautional, with Dorgu walking off, however begrudgingly.

With Luke Shaw having an injury and no other options at left-back to Dorgu, the Red Devils will be willing the Dane on to be back in action soon.
