Manchester United have been known to develop some of the world’s best players over the years.

Whether it has been Sir Bobby Charlton or George Best, their success at developing young players stems back a long time.

Their Class of 92 is perhaps their greatest achievement when developing youth players.

David Beckham, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt all came through the same youth side and went on to create history at United.

They were all part of the squad that helped United to a treble in 1999, becoming the first team in English football history to achieve this feat.

This is in addition to multiple other Premier League titles and FA Cup winners medals as they became the dominant force in English football.

Whilst they have been less successful, United have still managed to bring some exciting youth players in recent years, including Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Jesse Lingerd.

There is hope on current youngsters Kai Rooney, son of Wayne, and JJ Gabriel who United hope can be ones for the future.

With youth development always on United’s mind, they are looking to make a change behind the scenes.

The Daily Mail have reported that United are set to appoint Newcastle United’s head of youth recruitment Paul Midgley to the same role.

Midgley would replace Luke Fedorenko, who is on gardening leave before a new role with an agency.

After beating over 10 candidates to the role, Midgley is set to work once again with United’s director of football Jason Wilcox and new academy chief Stephen Trophy after previously working together at Manchester City.

However, it is reported that Midgley is still undecided on the move.

Should he decide to make the move, then he will have the task of trying to find the next youth gems for future United years.
