Paul Pogba suffering 'mentally'

Manchester United supporters will be watching closely as the next chapter in Paul Pogba’s career continues to unfold under difficult circumstances.

Once a central figure in United’s midfield and a World Cup winner, his journey since returning to France has been far from straightforward.

After a lengthy absence from the game due to a doping suspension, Pogba joined AS Monaco in a bid to rebuild his career and return to consistent top-level football.

However, progress has been hampered by repeated injury setbacks that have limited him to just a handful of appearances – and those struggles have started to take their toll both physically and mentally.

According to Foot Mercato, Pogba has not been seen on the pitch since early December following a succession of muscular issues – a thigh problem in October, an ankle complaint and then a calf injury in mid-December.

His body simply hasn’t responded to the demands of competitive football after such a long layoff, and Monaco have even removed him from their UEFA squad list.

What’s more, there are growing signs that the French Ligue 1 side may be ready to part ways with the midfielder if circumstances do not improve.

With his contract running until 2027, questions are now being raised about whether Monaco will commit long-term or seek to move him on if fitness and form do not return.

In a candid interview, Paul Pogba’s brother Mathias Pogba highlighted the psychological impact of the extended struggles.

“Mentally, it’s tough. Not just for him, but for everyone in the family. I told him he wouldn’t be able to come back at 100% right away… We were expecting better, but that’s the reality… the body wasn’t used to that kind of rhythm, training, and high-intensity matches anymore.”

Mathias went on to stress that, despite the setbacks, patience and resilience remain key:

“It’s more mentally tough. You have so many expectations, so much enthusiasm, and then you get another blow… You have to bounce back again and again.”

For United fans who witnessed Pogba at his peak – whether in the Premier League or on the World Cup stage – these developments are sobering.

With Monaco reportedly weighing up their options and Pogba taking things “day by day,” his long-term future in professional football remains uncertain.

What was once a career marked by world-class moments is now defined by repeated injury woes and tough questions about his next move.
