Manchester United’s season has seen its share of drama off the pitch with legend Paul Scholes constantly involved.
Former boss Ruben Amorim was dismissed earlier in the year, with club legend Michael Carrick stepping in on an interim basis.
Since taking charge, Carrick has overseen an upturn in results, although his first defeat came in a 2-1 loss at Newcastle United.
That result sparked discussion across social media after another former United icon appeared to criticise Carrick in a now-deleted Instagram story.
Paul Scholes wrote at the time: “Michael has definitely got something about him… cos Utd have been crap last four games… night.”
That post quickly attracted attention among supporters before being removed.
Scholes has now addressed the situation publicly.
Speaking on the GoodBadFootball podcast, the former midfielder insisted his comments were never intended to offend Carrick.
“It was in no way intended to be offensive towards Michael. He’d be the last person I want to offend.
“I messaged Michael anyway. He told me himself he wasn’t upset by it.”
The clarification marks a significant softening in tone from Scholes.
He evidently has not been shy about offering blunt opinions regarding his former club in recent years.
The legendary midfielder has frequently voiced criticism of players and performances at Old Trafford.
Earlier this season, Scholes publicly singled out Lisandro Martinez for criticism, with the Argentine defender later responding to the comments.
Away from football, Scholes also made the headlines in November 2025 after selling his £3 million family home, marking another notable development in his life.
Despite the controversy surrounding the Instagram post, Scholes’ latest comments suggest there is no lingering tension between himself and the current Manchester United caretaker manager, Michael Carrick.
With Manchester Untied still pushing to finish the season strongly under Carrick’s guidance, attention is now likely to return to events on the pitch rather than disagreements off it.
