With Stefano Pioli set to leave AC Milan in the upcoming summer, talk is rife, as it has been all season, about who will replace him. Today, Carlo Pellegatti has commented on one candidate who may be in line for the job.

For Milan, this season will be defined by several lows much deeper than the peak of any highs, and for many, the blame for that lies on Pioli. As a result, the management are seeking to replace him and begin a new era at the club after five years of the Pioli era.

Several names have been linked with the soon-to-be vacant post, and the man deemed favourite for the job has continually shifted, from Thiago Motta in the early stages of the season to Mark van Bommel recently.

One name who has remained near the front, if not in the front, is Antonio Conte, who is currently without a job after leaving Tottenham Hotspur last season. The Italian manager presents the Rossoneri with a difficult decision – he has been successful in nearly every role. However, it would cost a significant amount for him to accept joining the club.

Pellegatti spoke to Radio Rossonera earlier today and offered his opinion on the current landscape.

“Yesterday, I read someone who tickled my curiosity about that meeting of Theo Hernandez with Zlatan Ibrahimovic, photographed on Milan’s social media. Below I went to see the comments: only on Antonio Conte. There were a few insults, but otherwise just that.”

“It seems to me that Furlani said that the technical side leaves it to Moncada and Ibrahimovic and then everything will go back to Cardinale’s final decision: this is the way. Then, who says Fonseca, Conte, Tedesco, Farioli, Van Bommel and carries on with it, I honestly don’t know.”

“Then let’s talk about it. I know that the name convinces unanimously, even journalists like Ordine. The Milan fan today, even though he came second but behind Inter, needs a jolt of enthusiasm. And it comes in two and a half names: Conte, Klopp and I think Thiago Motta. Outside of these 3, I think any name the Milan player doesn’t like.”

“I’ll tell you one thing: Fonseca probably won’t come because he’s going to Marseille. But I’ve already read opinions against it, but on what basis? I am not in favour because I don’t have the basis to say so. I am not against it. But if we reason that all those, except those two or three there, are not good a priori… I know it is so, but Pioli out can mature. But someone who hasn’t yet put his butt on the bench and is already out…”
