Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is likely to be out for at least a week after limping off during the win over Genoa with a knee ligament injury.

The midfielder had been in the starting XI in last night’s 3-1 Serie A victory at the Stadio Olimpico, but hobbled off at half-time.

He was accidentally hurt during a collision and initial reports suggest he was diagnosed with the strain of the collateral ligament in his knee.

It is not a serious issue, but he is expected to be out of action for at least a week.

Roma will miss Pellegrini in Europa League

This means Pellegrini is unlikely to feature in Thursday’s huge Europa League trip to AZ Alkmaar, but there is some hope of the next Serie A match against Udinese on Sunday January 26.

Roma are also still missing Bryan Cristante, while Enzo Le Fée was sent out to Sunderland on loan, so Claudio Ranieri could find himself a little short-staffed in midfield.
