Roma captain Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled up during training today with a muscular problem, so he is a major doubt to feature against Atalanta.

That showdown kicks off at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo on Monday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT, 20.45 CET) and is a head-to-head for Champions League qualification.

Pellegrini would have most likely been in the starting XI for Claudio Ranieri in that big match.

However, he interrupted today’s session at the Trigoria training ground with a muscular problem.

Pellegrini a concern for Roma

There will be more tests performed on Friday to see the extent of the damage and medical staff can then ascertain a rough timetable for his return to the field.

It has been a very rough season for Pellegrini, who struggled with repeated injury and form issues, often dropped to the bench by the three different coaches who went through the club.

Roma have an extremely difficult fixture list in these final weeks of the season, facing Atalanta, Milan and Torino.
