Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag‘s future will be decided very soon. The Dutchman is rumored to have already lost his position and is set to be fired regardless of the result.
On the other hand, many claim that a win may be able to salvage his position. As the Red Devils delivered on their only shot at silverware, opposition boss Pep Guardiola appeared to ‘sympathize’ with Ten Hag. Guardiola also acknowledged United’s historical advantage and legacy in England.
In big clubs like City and United, if you don't win, you're in trouble. When we are done, even I'll be in trouble if we don't win. I completely agree with him (Ten Hag) when he says that he didn't have a full squad and lots of injuries. Pep Guardiola said in a press conference
Guardiola also acknowledged Ten Hag’s ability to inspire results, pointing to his tenure both at United and Ajax.
"In terms of history, [Manchester United] is the best team in England."

The Spaniard also seemed to acknowledge the fact that injuries have been a major reason why United have struggled to be at their best this season. Ahead of the tie, Guardiola also named United as the ‘best’ English team in history.
Manchester United are reportedly set to part ways with Erik ten Hag. In a repeat of David Moyes ‘ situation back in 2016, the club have decided to sack the manager even after he managed to win the FA Cup final against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City 2-1. The decision comes off the back of two underwhelming seasons, with the 2023/24 season seeing them finish at a record low of 8th.
Ten Hag’s sacking will be the ‘biggest’ decision made by the INEOS management and Sir Jim Ratcliffe ever since they acquired a minority stake at the club. If true, the decision is truly shocking, given Ten Hag has repeatedly insisted that he isn’t worried about his position at the club. In an earlier press conference, Ten Hag claimed that those who wanted him gone knew ‘nothing’ about football.

In recent weeks, United have been linked to former Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, Gareth Southgate and Graham Potter. Most recently, there had been rumors that Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna had also been approached by club representatives. Many at Bayern Munich also believe that Thomas Tuchel ‘stalled’ negotiations of an extension only because the United job had been offered to him.
