Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola was happy with his team’s performance in their 1-all draw with Liverpool. The treble winners were the better side on the day but had to settle for a point after a late Trent Alexander-Arnold strike cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener. The result means City sit second in the Premier League following Saturday’s results.

Speaking post-game the City manager was delighted with his side’s performance. He told the media: “We are hungry and upset in the locker room, but it was an incredibly great game. Statistics or who deserved it more, it doesn’t count. I am going to drink my wine with one point. I am incredibly pleased about the performance we played because Liverpool are an incredible team.”

Pep Guardiola also doesn’t believe the draw is a negative result considering there are still 25 games left in the Premier League season. He also cast an eye on what City have next after the draw with Liverpool. He added: “We were incredibly good in all departments. We were not going to win or lose the Premier League today, we just had to be ourselves. Now we have to continue and make the run to qualify against Leipzig. Then it’s Spurs next weekend and Villa after that.”

Attention now shifts for the treble winners to the UEFA Champions League. City face RB Leipzig at the Etihad on Tuesday. A draw will be enough for the European champions to qualify as group winners from Group G.

Manchester City will also be hoping for some positive news on the injury front as they prepare for a tough run of games. Jack Grealish missed the Liverpool game due to illness. Matheus Nunes is also recovering from an injury he picked up over the international break.
