Conor Gallagher is blossoming into a top player before our eyes. In a struggling Chelsea side he’s been a rare consistent source of hope, regularly captaining the side and leading from the front.
He’s being used further forward than ever before, and he’s developed his passing game significantly under Mauricio Pochettino this season, as Transfermarkt point out.
They use a great bit of data from FBRef to make this visualisation:
As you can see, Gallagher’s passes per 90 has increased each season, with a major leap up this year. A lot of this is to do with the team and the league he’s playing in, but the fact he’s now playing more than twice as many passes as he was just a few years ago shows how versatile his game in.
Let’s not forget, he leads Chelsea in blocks, tackles and interceptions this season, so he’s hardly lost the defensive side of his game.
